Uber sold its self-driving unit in 2020 and now acts as the storefront: it brings riders, payment and support; partners bring the vehicle and software; a third party sometimes owns and runs the fleet. In the app today: driverless Apollo Go and WeRide in Dubai, driverless WeRide in Abu Dhabi, supervised Wayve in London, Pony.ai with Verne in Zagreb. Announced: 1,200 WeRide robotaxis in the Middle East by 2027, more than 2,000 Pony.ai vehicles across five European cities, Nuro and Lucid in the Bay Area, MOIA in Los Angeles.
