Drive Pilot is a conditionally automated (Level 3) system: on motorways, within its design domain, the car drives and the driver may look away. Germany's KBA approved a 95 km/h version in December 2024, priced at 5,950 euros on the S-Class and EQS; the US version stays at 60 km/h. On January 12, 2026 electrive reported that the facelifted S-Class would not offer Drive Pilot, replaced by a Level 2 system without lidar. Mercedes still targets Level 4 with Nvidia on the next S-Class, 2028 to 2030.
